Winter bass fishing can offer some of the most rewarding opportunities of the year when anglers understand the seasonal behaviors of bass. As water temperatures drop into the 40s, bass experience metabolic changes, influencing their activity levels and feeding patterns. While popular winter techniques include jerkbaits, small swimbaits, jigs, and spoons, blade baits like the DYNA RESPONSE stand out for their effectiveness in cold, clear water when small to medium-sized baitfish are the preferred forage.

What Makes the Dyna Response Different?

The DYNA RESPONSE’s thin gauge stainless steel plate and lifelike finish combine to produce significant vibration when pumped or pulled off the bottom and with speed variations on a straight retrieve. The tinsel tail creates extra enticement while combatting line fouling during lift and fall retrieves. This bait performs exceptionally well in vertical and semi-horizontal presentations over deep water when making precise presentations is essential for success.

Key Areas and Conditions for Success

The DYNA RESPONSE’s effectiveness truly shines in zones with deeper, vertical structures and steep transitions.

  • Deeper Points– Primary and secondary points throughout various deep-water zones that contain hard bottom. Depths of 50+ feet can be productive, especially in clearer water.
  • Ditches and Channels– Bass tend to stage in sub-channels close to the main river swings in many impoundments.
  • 40-50º water temperatures – Colder water concentrates bait and bass on deeper structures and transitions, allowing for pinpoint targeting.
  • Overcast Skies- Often a sign of a low-pressure system can aid when fishing clear bodies of water with over 3’ of visibility.
Dialing In Your Presentation

For vertical presentations, allow the DYNA RESPONSE to drop straight to the bottom. Once it settles, pump the bait vertically 2-3’, keeping a semi-tight line as it falls back to control the descent. Strikes typically occur on the fall or immediately after the bait is engaged upwards.

Dissect deep water more effectively by making shorter 10-20’ pitches in front of the boat or to the side. Cover the water with precision. Fish with the wind when a consistent drift can be achieved. For days when the wind moves the boat slightly faster, subsequent pitches can be replaced with boat drift, accomplishing the same coverage of water without the need to re-cast.

Equipment Pairings

Pairing the DYNA RESPONSE with a longer responsive rod, such as the DESTROYER P5 F5-75X JAVELIN and 15-17lb fluorocarbon will provide the sensitivity and the maneuverability needed to impart the appropriate retrieve while cushioning head shakes from the depths. A higher speed reel is preferred in order to quickly tighten up on slack line and allow for fast retrieves and recasts if a new target is spotted on FFS. If spinning tackle is preferred, the LEVANTE F4-74LV ENFORCER provides the needed attributes for this approach. For spinning tackle, using a 3000-4000 size reel paired with braid to a 8-10lb fluorocarbon leader.
