ABOUT US

The birth of Megabass in the U.S. is the stuff of legend, involving a cross-country trek in the early 90’s in which Megabass founder Yuki Ito challenged pro staff of local stores and area pros to fishing duels. The rules were simple: if Yuki won, the store had to buy his lures; if the U.S. angler won, then Yuki had to buy local tackle from the store. This “put your money where your mouth is” approach, combined with the quality and undeniable fish-catching performance of Yuki’s handcrafted equipment, convinced stores to take on this premium Japanese tackle.

Today, Megabass still embodies that same daring spirit, crafting equipment that challenges convention and inspires outperformance. Each product embodies the union of handmade form and technological innovation, bringing the same care and exacting artistry of the handmade tradition to each modern production. In an age dominated by CAD, every Megabass lure is based on a hand-carved Yuki Ito original and lovingly finished by hand.

Little has changed since Megabass’ birth in a garage in 1986 from the hands and ideals of Yuki Ito. Today, Megabass continues its tradition of innovation, quality, and custom handicraft, never losing sight of the angler’s hands for which each Megabass® product is painstakingly made.

FORM FOLLOWS EMOTION

Megabass products are built to outperform and inspire. As Japanese craftsman, we honor the traditions of simplicity and functional elegance that shaped our history. Drawing from traditions such as sukiya-zukuri architecture and the artistry of Genroku bunka, we carry the maxim “form follows function” even further: form follows emotion.
